Babies On Board

I flew to Barrow last week.

It was just for the day…out on the morning flight…back in the afternoon.

I said good-bye to a friend and hello to some much-needed groceries. It was a short trip, but a great day. Chinese food for lunch with a much-loved friend and a full fridge when I get home…how much better can it get?

While waiting for the flight back to Atqasuk, I was steadily entertained by the antics of two toddlers soon to be passengers on the same flight.

Bush planes provide passenger and freight transport, but not much else. There are no attendants distributing magazines or snacks; there is no in-flight movie to pass the time.

But…there is always the window.

And sometimes passengers put on a show without even trying.

I lucked out, having babies on board, because the passenger strapped in next to me was rather short on conversation.

Cute pictures! Usually, I hope for no little kids on a flight and the person next to me to not talk :/ It seems like a whole different world.

LOL! Yes, a very different world. I lucked out in that the babies were both happy and the flight was short. Otherwise, this might have been a very different story. :)

So, you have to do grocery shopping in Barrow? Do you have a village store, like an AC, but Barrow has a bigger variety or bigger store, or cheaper? Do you do barge shipping where you order tons of supplies once or twice a year too? Is Barrow much different from Atqsuk, or very much the same? Bigger by a lot?
Adorable pictures!

Barrow has an AC. We have a home store that I have been meaning to blog about, but haven't gotten around to. Thanks for reminding me! Barrow also has a few other (smaller) stores. Our population is around 225 while Barrow's is around 5000. I'd say that's a big difference. :) I just received an order from SPAN Alaska that (I'm hoping) will last me through the summer and into the fall. Having a big freezer is a must. Thanks for all the great questions...you've inspired a new post! :)
